Events in Sandton

Sandton is the corporate heart of Johannesburg, with the Sandton Convention Centre, large hotels and office towers hosting conferences, award evenings, product launches and year-end functions. Private homes and estates in Bryanston, Hyde Park and Morningside hold large garden weddings, milestone birthdays and charity dinners, often with stretch tents and lighting. Demand for sound, screens and staging is high, and planners usually book months ahead for November and December. Luxury hire items such as lounge furniture and decor are popular here. Many planners and hire companies are based close by in Wynberg and Rivonia. Highveld summer storms mean outdoor functions need a firm wet-weather plan.

Typical catering services requests in the area come from:

• Conferences, launches and expos: tea and coffee on arrival, a plated or buffet lunch and snack breaks across the day
• Corporate functions and year-end parties: working lunches, launch canapes and year-end buffets with staff and a bar
• Weddings and traditional ceremonies: a plated or buffet dinner, canapes at the cocktail hour and a cake table for 80 to 200 guests
• Birthdays and private parties: a braai, finger food or a sit-down dinner at home, a hall or a restaurant
• Festivals, markets and sports days: food stalls, a main caterer and a hot meal for the crew at a market or concert
• Funerals, church and cultural gatherings: funeral, unveiling and church meals served in large pots to a big crowd
• Kids' parties and baby showers: party food, cupcakes and snack boxes for the children and a light meal for the adults
