Mobile toilet hire puts clean, self-contained toilets on a site that has none, or too few: a wedding on a farm, a funeral on a sports field, a festival, a building site or a school fun day. In South Africa you can hire basic chemical cabins, flushing VIP units and luxury trailers, delivered, serviced and collected. Tell us the date, the number of guests, how long the event runs and where it is, and suppliers who serve your area send you a quote directly.
Standard, VIP and luxury units
Suppliers usually offer three levels, and it pays to match the unit to the occasion:
- Standard cabin: a single plastic cabin with a chemical toilet and a hand sanitiser. It suits festivals, sports days and building sites.
- VIP or flushing unit: a larger cabin with a flush toilet, a basin with running water and a mirror. It suits weddings, funerals and corporate functions.
- Luxury trailer: a towed trailer with several private stalls, air-conditioning, lights and music, for weddings and high-end events.
- Extras: urinal stalls for men, units with wheelchair access, hand-wash basins, and a cleaner who stays on site.
How many toilets for how many guests
The usual guide is one toilet for every 50 guests for an event of up to four hours, and one for every 30 guests for a full day or when alcohol is served. A 100-guest wedding running into the evening therefore needs at least four toilets, plus two urinals if you want short queues for the men. Women take longer, so give them most of the units. For events over 300 guests, split toilets into two or three blocks so guests do not walk far. Add an accessible unit for any event where elderly or disabled guests are expected. A funeral or unveiling with a large crowd arriving at once needs more toilets than the same number at a party.
Servicing, water, access and placement
Units must stand on firm, level ground, within reach of a truck, and should be lit if the event runs after dark. Place them away from the food and the seating, but not so far that guests will not use them. Ask whether the price covers delivery and collection, toilet paper, sanitiser, and servicing during a multi-day event. Most suppliers service units once a day, or after every 150 uses, so festivals need a schedule. VIP units need a water supply or a tank, and some need power, so ask what each unit needs and who provides it. If your site is on a slope or soft lawn, tell the supplier so they can bring boards.
What affects the price and what to check
The price rises with the type of unit, the number of units, the number of days, the distance from the supplier's depot and whether a cleaner is included. Day rates are cheapest for standard cabins and highest for luxury trailers. Compare quotes on the same basis: delivery, collection, servicing, paper and sanitiser. Ask the supplier about the damage deposit and cancellation terms. Large public events may need extra sanitation under the municipality's event permit, so check with your municipality.
