Events in Potchefstroom
Potchefstroom is a university and school town, so graduations, matric dances, residence functions and sports events fill much of the calendar. The North-West University campus and the town's well-known schools use halls, fields and marquees for prize-givings and big social events. Garden venues, guesthouses and farm venues along the Mooi River and outside town host weddings, with plenty of tree-lined settings. Companies hold year-end functions at hotels and clubs, and Ikageng families hold funerals, unveilings and traditional ceremonies in yards and halls. Summers bring hot days and storms, and winters are cold and dry. Planners and hire companies are based in town, serving Ventersdorp, Parys and the surrounding farms.
Typical mobile toilet hire requests in the area come from:
- School events and matric dances: extra units for a sports day or fun day with hundreds of children and parents
- Weddings and traditional ceremonies: VIP flushing units or a luxury trailer placed near the tent but out of sight of the photos
- Corporate functions and year-end parties: VIP units with an attendant for an outdoor launch, team building day or year-end function
- Funerals, church and cultural gatherings: several standard cabins and urinals for funerals, unveilings and church gatherings on open ground
- Birthdays and private parties: a few cabins for a large garden or farm party where the house toilets cannot cope
- Conferences, launches and expos: extra units for an expo or an outdoor exhibition where the venue's toilets are too few
- Kids' parties and baby showers: child-friendly access and hand-wash basins for a big party in a park or on a farm
- Festivals, markets and sports days: blocks of cabins serviced daily with wheelchair access and lit paths for a multi-day event
