Events in Pretoria

Pretoria hosts government functions, university graduations, embassy events and plenty of family weddings. Garden venues in Waterkloof, Brooklyn and Faerie Glen suit smaller ceremonies, while wine and country estates to the east and north draw larger bookings. October is jacaranda season, when outdoor photographs and spring weddings are in high demand. Many companies hold conferences and workshops at hotels and lodges around Hatfield and Centurion, and churches and halls in Mamelodi and Soshanguve host big community celebrations. Summer afternoons bring thunderstorms, so tents and covered stages are popular. Planners and hire companies work from Silverton, Waltloo and Pretoria West and cover the whole of Tshwane.

Typical event planners requests in the area come from:

• Weddings and traditional ceremonies: a planner who builds the budget, books suppliers and keeps the timeline for the couple and both families
• Corporate functions and year-end parties: a planner who handles a year-end function or client evening from venue to the final invoice
• Conferences, launches and expos: a planner who sets the programme, speakers' travel and room layouts for a one or two day meeting
• Funerals, church and cultural gatherings: an unveiling, church event or cultural celebration with seating, food, toilets and parking organised
• School events and matric dances: a committee's matric dance or fun day planned to a fixed budget with volunteers and suppliers
• Birthdays and private parties: a milestone party with a venue, theme, food, music and a cake moment planned to the minute
• Kids' parties and baby showers: a party plan with a venue, activities, food for children and adults, and a clear start and end time
